You would think that the anti-war stance Ron Paul takes would earn him no love from conservatives in the military, but apparently, that’s not the case.
The non partisan Center for Responsible Politics has collected donation information from September 2011 and it points to the rank and file members of the American armed forces as overwhelmingly supporting Ron Paul. Yeah, the same Ron Paul that is anti-Israel, anti-Afghanistan, and anti-Iraq.
“Clearly there’s something about Paul that appeals to some members of the military,” says Viveca Novak of the Center for Responsive Politics. “Whether it’s that he speaks his mind, wants to end foreign engagements, has a libertarian’s view of the world—we can’t say.”
I would imagine that Ron Paul’s stance on only fighting in wars that are actually, you know, declared, might be some reasoning behind the support of people charged with dying for the defense of our country. I’m not a military person, so I can’t really say anything, just note it and go on.
For the record, I’m not a Ron Paul supporter. I believe him to be a bit of a loose cannon (understatment). But I figured I’d put this here so you’d have a chance to reflect on the strangeness of this political season.
Apparently the renown fashion icon and legendary drag queen RuPaul will be ‘Campaigning’ In New Hampshire To spread the news and alert voters that he (she?) is not the libertarian top-tier Republican candidate for President Ron Paul. Yep, that’s right RuPaul is not only NOT running for President of the United States, but he (she?) is jumping into the action in the great state of New Hampshire to tell folks all about it (and quite possibly promote the new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
Apparently he (she) is sick and tired of being confused for Rep. Ron Paul, so he (she?)has decided to “campaign” in a New Hampshire diner this morning (in Ferragamo!) to distinguish himself from Ron Paul. No, really, we simply couldn’t make this stuff up.
“I’m going to N.H. on a mission to spread love and set the record straight: contrary to recent reports, I am NOT Ron Paul. And I am not running for president of the United States. I hope to meet Ron Paul in person so we can be seen together to put the rumors to rest once and for all. And to remind Mr. Paul and all the Republican presidential candidates ‘if you can’t love yourself, how in the hell are you going to love somebody else. Can I get an ‘Amen?’”
Lots of folk want to support and defend Ron Paul, many of them keep clinging to whatever defence of his actions that come out of Paul’s mouth, only what he says has changed over the years, depending on who was doing the asking.
