Well, now that everyone is back from the RWA brouhaha, perhaps you might like to cool down with some very hot Summer films. A couple that are still out include George A. Romero’s newest zombie flick, Land of the Dead (which I reviewed over here), and War of the Worlds (staring my cousin, and some newcomer named Tom Cruise), reviewed here.
However, lest it be said that I never admit when I’m wrong, so let me tell you a little about the last most recent film I went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which I thought was going to tank, but apparently is doing very well (topped the box Office Receipts a couple of weeks in a row — ah well, you can’t call ‘em all, eh?) . The movie was very Tim Burton, replete with all of his very quirkier touches, which —along with the talented Johnny Depp — kept the film from dripping into the hackneyed (although I still got weirded out by Depp’s “Michael Jackson”-like delivery.
Still, it wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting, and actually added something to the characters of both Charlie, and Willie. So go, and judge for yourselves. I’ll let you all know when (and where) to find my reviews as soon as I get them posted.
