What’s KILL SHOT about?

Probably better to ask what THE CLEARSKY CHRONICLES is about.

What are THE CLEARSKY CHRONICLES about?

Set on a frozen Earth a few hundred years from now, two people from different worlds are destined to meet and have their lives intertwined forever.  Odessa, a MEDcadet on her way to Earthland as part of the half-year procession, witnesses the murder of her surgical professor. Since all Cerubus citizens have location tracking chips embedded along their spines, it won’t be long before the murderers know she saw them. She can’t go to security – they’re the murderers!

Meanwhile, Reynal, a delivery dogsled driver on Earthland, longs to see Clearsky. For 200 years, the sky has been a cold, dark, gray shroud looming over everything he’s ever seen. While Rey has been taught about the Sun, the Moon and the stars, he’s never seen them. Clearsky would not only bring sunlight back, but the warmth the light brings with it. Enough warmth to melt the glaciers surrounding his home near the City.

Rey competes against a genetically modified competitor in the Ice Runner Games. The winner goes to the finals for a chance to win a trip to Rhone – the home of the fortress ark carved out of a mountain by Cerebus.  Later, Rey is sent to retrieve a special package. One that the crew of the Cerebus flagship zeppelin failed to find.

Impeccable world-building and a cast of compelling, heroic characters you will root for in a nail-biting mix of adventure, science, and survival. One of my favorite reads this year!

The part of writing I loathe more than anything

Advertising.

It’s a necessary evil, because of two things:

1: I hate talking about myself. I’m an introvert by nature, and tooting my own horn sounds so fake and hollow.

2: I know nothing about advertising. I view people who are experts at advertising no different than hyenas.

And here I am trying to advertise my creation — I have to become what I despise.

I’m not happy.

I’d rather be writing Book 2
Once you read Book 1, you’ll understand.

Seriously. Read the first six episodes of THE CLEARSKY CHRONICLES.

Icefall print cover with additional art!

Icefall’s print cover is progressing. We’re still tweaking the thing, but in so doing have to deal with a time warp. You see, our cover artist, Joey Hi Fi, is eight time zones away, so patience is a requirement.

In the meantime, here’s the image from the back cover of ICEFALL.

The asteroid is named Alice.

The mission of our main character, Reynal, is to deliver the asteroid to Earth.
He is told this is a good thing.
Everyone else knows it’s a very bad thing.
The image below is the vision from one of our characters of what will happen.

One large asteroid can ruin your day

A world frozen for two hundred years, now on the verge of dying. A centuries-old plan to deliver Earth from extinction. Will the deep-space maneuver actually save the planet? Or will it finish off what remains of mankind?

Odessa, a nineteen-year-old MEDcadet, witnesses the murder of her anatomy professor and finds herself in fear for her life. Fighting recurring panic attacks while sailing from her home on Rhone—the fortified ark created by Cerebus—across the Eastern Sea to Earthland, Odessa manages to keep what she’s seen to herself. To her horror, however, when the vessel docks, she and her podmates are arrested by the very security force who committed the crime.

Reynal Królik, an eighteen-year-old trading post sled driver on Earthland, longs for Clearsky, though he’s never known anything but the gray shroud that darkens the atmosphere. After he and his fellow messengers foil an assassin’s attempt to kill Odessa and her companions, he whisks them away, only to discover he and she are tangled up on opposite sides of the same secret mission to slam an asteroid into Earth—one for which Rey will be the asteroid driver.

Rey and Odessa—along with their friends and a dangerous outlaw—race against time to escape Earthland, but can they evade Cerebus’ flagship war zeppelin in order for Rey to complete the task for which he was destined? A destiny Odessa was taught to deny and will fight to prevent?
