The goal of the characters is to get OFF the island, and apparently (as seen in these flash forwards) THEY DO. Some, anyway. And then some realize that the island wasn't so bad after all. It's irony. As for making sense within the show itself, none of these flash forwards make sense. It's like slices of a dream. I've often wondered if the backwards talking dwarf person from TWIN PEAKS would make an appearance. Oh, and the Hurley character finally comes to the decision (once he's off the island) that he's dead and all he's experiencing (and what we're watching) is some version of Hell. Oh, sorry Perfessor. However, instead, I will stick with this one observation. For a show that takes place on an uncharted Island, so much of that clip didn’t.
