Vampyres Suck!

by The Perfessor

No really, they do, but not in a bad way (well, unless you consider the whole biting into your neck, draining dry your blood and — in the process — either killing you or turning you into one of their undead minions). Anyway, as it turns out (and as we've noted here over and over) Vampyres are all the rage these days, what with Tru Blood, Twilight, and, well all of the rest.

Well, this being “Shocktober” and Halloween being just around the corner, I thought I’d chat about the undead for just a bit.

First up, so popular are they that they are even appearing in “regular” TV shows, like ABC’s Castle:

Then, of course, there is the silly stuff:

Still, for those of us who truly appreciate how creepy and disturbing that this stuff can be, there are folks who are truly giving a unique and novel spin on the Kith and Kin of Count Vlad. One person whose stuff I really like is Shawnti Therrien who loves to (as you might have guessed) write about vampyres.

am-i-ImmortalShe has been writing about her character Meth for Guild Works Productions’ premiere title Psychosis! (soon to be re-incarnated under the Atlas Unleashed banner). A very busy gal, Shawnti has also produced a couple of issues of Am I Immortal (a sister series to Meth) for Free Lunch Comics, but has now taken that series “rogue” (so to speak), and is completely on her own (although don’t be surprised if you see it pop up sporting an Atlas Unleashed Logo at some point Wink-wink, nudge-nudge).

Am-I-Imortal-2Am I Immortal, is not a typical comicbook in that Shawnti’s style doesn’t follow the standard type of comicbook layout. She uses more over-sized panels (often full-page pin-ups), as well as oddly-shaped interior panels, and pacing. It is unusual in the fashion that it is out of the ordinary, and totally worth checking out. If you like what you see in her on-line portfolio, you’re going to want to actually purchase a copy of five (hey, if you like the book, it is a sure bet so will your fiends...err friends).

I’m totally digging her blog, which she has literally just started. So look her up, and remember that Vampyers are not just for Halloween (oh yeah, and don’t forget them werewülves either.
