Bitch-Slaping Stephen Colbert

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Yeah, you read that right. Even though I’m a fan of Mr. Colbert and a member of his “nation" I want to give him something of a bitch slap for incorrectly displaying the American Flag on Thursday night’s episode of his coverage of the Winter Olympics. Yep, he (well his set dresser), hung the US flag wrong for one of the segments of his show:

As you can clearly see from this image that was lifted from his sketch Freud Rage - The Iceman Counseleth - Shani Davis both U.S. flags are hung vertically with the blue field in the upper right. As any Boy Scout knows, when hung, the U.S. Flag is always hung with the blue field in the upper left.

Seriously, shame on Colbert for screwing up so simple a thing as this.

Stephen Colbert calls out Sarah Palin

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Yeah, yeah, I know that Walt posted a link to this in his response to an earlier post, but I felt that it was so funny (I nearly wet myself when watching it live last night), that I felt that it deserved its own post.

If only this tactic could work for the rest of us!

During Colbert’s Tip of the Hat/Wag of the Finger segment last night, he gave a tip of the hat to ScareBear Trail Companion, an iPhone app that is intended to ward off bears. As always, Colbert gave a rather funny demonstration of how the app works and how it is intended to be used, but it was his parting statement before a commercial break that really caught my attention.

If you remember, he tried this approach when the iPhone came out, but it didn’t work then. Well, this time he had better luck...

...it seems like after begging for one the entire week, Stephen Colbert just saw his dreams come true.

Tonight at the Grammys, instead of pulling out the “Song of the Year” envelope, he managed to surprise everybody with a shiny Apple iPad.

One can only assume that the iPad needed a boost that the iPhone didn’t.

I’m not saying that I will go out an buy this over-priced, awkward toy, but if Steve Jobs wanted to give one to me as well. Still, some guys have all the luck

Going Rogueiness

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

While I haven’t run out to burn, er buy my copy of Sarah’s book, I did watch Stephen Colbert review it.

Last night on The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert discovered the one under-the-radar story that nobody is talking about: Sarah Palin's new book, "Going Rogue." Naturally, it was only fair for him to review it.

You know, listening to Stephen ‘splain about the book just makes everything clearer.

In fact, the only thing that could help, is Jon Stewart chiming in as well:

Justice for Money!

Monday, November 9th, 2009

Last week, Stephen Colbert went on a rant about the State of Arizona’s plan to privitize the State’s prison system by selling off nine of it’s 10 prisons, and then leasing them back from the new owners.

Yep, while that may sound preposterous to, well rational people, apparent the very notion of Arizona selling its prisons then leasing them back from the buyer to solve short-term cash flow problems somehow sounds like a great idea to the elected government officials in Arizona.

Here, is Colbert’s take on the whole situation:

Colbert Goes Commando

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

He’s been promoting this event for weeks, and well, now, he's there. That’s right, Starting this past Monday (yesterday) Stephen Colbert began a week of broadcasting from Iraq. You can view the full episode on ColbertNation.

I have to tell you that the show was a hoot-and-a-half, and not only that, but I totally want this suit:

Needless to say, while he was over there, he did his own fair share of celebrity sightings:

I can hardly wait for tonight’s episode.

Download tunes; crash the ‘net

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

So, what were you doing Wednesday December 3 at 5:00 P.M.? If you were like many of the fans of Colbert Nation you were (apparently) downloading Stephen’s A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All on iTunes. Seems that on both Monday and Tuesday and nights Colbert called for his fans to storm itunes and download his album at precisely 5:00 so as to knock Kayne West out of the #1 slot.

Then there was this follow-up on Tuesday:

Well, the really funny part comes in when Kanye West Posted this note on his twitter site.

Meanwhile Kanye slipped down the charts as both Britney Spears and Akon issued new albums debuting at #s 1 & 2 respectfully. So, while Colbert isn’t #1, he now sits on the chart higher than West.

Ya just gotta love this stuff. Personally, I can’t wait until tonight’s show. Oh yeah, in the mean time, there’s this...

Last night, Colbert celebrated his victory over Kanye in his typical humble fashion. (A video follows, unfortunately it is the whole show (there are no segregated clips), but the Kanye segment starts 1:35 in).
