ICEFALL cover change

Back in the heady days of Summer 2016, when we were wrapping up some final edits to ICEFALL, we ran across a really cool artist who had done some fantastic work for other Sci-Fi projects and were given a chance to grab his work for the cover of ICEFALL.

When we got a copy of the artwork, we were simply floored. It was beautiful. Packed with detail, the cover image had all the things within the novel, all packed onto the cover. But, we learned, having a crowded cover is not always a great thing. Slowly, we learned that for e-books, having a cover with a simple style fit in more with the market.
ICEFALL stood out, but not in a good way. THE CLEARSKY CHRONICLES is a distinct departure from either young adult or science fiction in that it’s not pushing a tried and true narrative. We wanted the cover to reflect that departure. Those of you who’ve read the first six episodes know this.

Our response to feedback has caused us to make a change to the cover of ICEFALL.
Since the changeover in cover images takes longer to propagate than the e-book version, the print copy with the original cover is soon to be a collector’s item.

Icefall print cover with additional art!

Icefall’s print cover is progressing. We’re still tweaking the thing, but in so doing have to deal with a time warp. You see, our cover artist, Joey Hi Fi, is eight time zones away, so patience is a requirement.

In the meantime, here’s the image from the back cover of ICEFALL.

The asteroid is named Alice.

The mission of our main character, Reynal, is to deliver the asteroid to Earth.
He is told this is a good thing.
Everyone else knows it’s a very bad thing.
The image below is the vision from one of our characters of what will happen.

One large asteroid can ruin your day

Icefall: Book 1 of THE CLEARSKY CHRONICLES

A world frozen for two hundred years, now on the verge of dying. A centuries-old plan to deliver Earth from extinction. Will the deep-space maneuver actually save the planet? Or will it finish off what remains of mankind?

Odessa, a nineteen-year-old MEDcadet, witnesses the murder of her anatomy professor and finds herself in fear for her life. Fighting recurring panic attacks while sailing from her home on Rhone—the fortified ark created by Cerebus—across the Eastern Sea to Earthland, Odessa manages to keep what she’s seen to herself. To her horror, however, when the vessel docks, she and her podmates are arrested by the very security force who committed the crime.

Reynal Królik, an eighteen-year-old trading post sled driver on Earthland, longs for Clearsky, though he’s never known anything but the gray shroud that darkens the atmosphere. After he and his fellow messengers foil an assassin’s attempt to kill Odessa and her companions, he whisks them away, only to discover he and she are tangled up on opposite sides of the same secret mission to slam an asteroid into Earth—one for which Rey will be the asteroid driver.

Rey and Odessa—along with their friends and a dangerous outlaw—race against time to escape Earthland, but can they evade Cerebus’ flagship war zeppelin in order for Rey to complete the task for which he was destined? A destiny Odessa was taught to deny and will fight to prevent?
