Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Then there was this one time, at band camp, when President Barack Obama was visited by his predecessors... (courtesy of Funny or Die)

Nice to see that all these former (great) comedians can still get work, eh?

(S)He who would Be President

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

As reported earlier, today was the day when Marvel Comics published a special edition of Amazing Spider-Man #583 which co-stared the (soon to be sworn in) President (elect) Barack Obama. Well, as already revealed the villain of the piece was to be the Chameleon, a long-standing Spider-Man villain.

I am revealing here fro the first time that was a bit of disinformation from Marvel, and through my investigative powers (and Photoshop) I was able to determine the actual villain:

(Apparently) Not all Superheroes wear spandex!

Obama-Man, Obama-Man,
Does whatever a Democrat can!
Saves the country in 100 days,
Beats Republicans 100 ways!
Look out! Here comes Obama-Man!

Spider-Obama!

Spider-Obama!

OK, OK, so it needs work. The point is that on Wednesday, January 14th (a full seven days before he actually takes office), Barack Obama will appear inside (and if you are very lucky) on the front cover of Amazing Spider-Man #583.

Back in November it was revealed that Obama collects comicbooks, and that his favorite character was Spider-Man. Well, ever unable to let an opportunity to pimp comics, Marvel Editor-in-Chief, Joe Quasada set in motion plans to put the incoming president in a Marvel comic. Which brings us to this Wednesday, when intrepid news photographer, Peter Parker, travels to Washington, D.C. to snap pics of the inauguration ceremony.

Needless to say, since everything in comics require folks in spandex whaling the crap out of each other, while there, he discovers a plot to assassinate the incoming president, causing the eternally young man to switch into his (union) suit and save the life of the new Prez.

Well, since the Spidey/Obama cover to ASM #583 is a “variant” it will be in limited supply and most likely will be selling for over cover price ($3.99) on opening day (it is currently being listed on ebay for opening bids ranging from cover price to nearly 100 bucks (eep!)

Now, as an editor of a comicbook price guide (Comics Values Annual, Krause Books) I won’t tell you that this comic is going to actually ever actually be worth a ton of money (a second printing is already planned). but it might make for a fun keepsake.

There’s no one as Irish as Barack Obama!

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

If you haven't heard, Obama's maternal heritage is Irish.

Here's the song, but don't ask me to sing it with a straight face.

Yes, it helps to sing this if you're drunk... or Irish...

but I repeat myself.

The hard rock (and original version!) was done by the Hardy Drew And the Nancy Boys

It was initially believed the would-be president's great-great-great-grandfather Fulmuth Kearney was the only one of his family to have sailed from Ireland to New York at age 19 in 1850.

A funny thing happened to me on my way to posting this morning. Walt beat me to the post I was going to make. Yep, that’s right after some four-and-a-half-years of co-posting we have finally hit on the same topic post at the same time. Seriously, I was just going to make this post myself.

Anyway, Here’s the thing, If you don’t understand what the deal is with the above Hilton Post, it is comedic-inspired political blowback to McCain’s camp for attempting to slam Obama by (unfavorably) comparing the Senator to Paris and Brit-Brit. This, even considering that Paris’ parents donated several thousands of dollars to McCain’s campaign (and we thought that the current President was an intellectual lightweight).

Anyway, if you missed the initial (McCain) ad, here it is:

Just to put the proper spin on all of this silliness, we have Jon Stewart, from The Daily Show:

Now you see why we are having so much fun here at Cuppa-Central.
