I used to get the yard all dressed up for Halloween, then it just got to be a lot of work for not much payoff, so I gave up, and moved on to other things in my head (and elsewhere).

P.S. Hey Walt, the Header doesn’t return you to the main page.

How true, Julie! I even went by the Spirit brand of Halloween shop (you know, those temporary Halloween stores) just to see if they had anything on sale that I wanted. 50% off, true, but off what? I wanted 50% off the 4 ft. blacklight fixture they had, but the ones they did have were missing the bulb, which made them pretty much useless.

I read a story about how Halloween is making inroads into countries such as Russia, with the church attempting to come down hard on the "obsession with mocking death" that the holiday "represents", but I decided a while back that a holiday is what you make it.

While my child might have been one of the first to save you from giving out candy, I think it's awesome that you're embracing the holiday! But you know, I think the fuddy-duddies are never going to win...not now that retailers like Target and Walmart are making BIG BUCKS selling all the Halloween acutrements to suckers like me. :D Once Big Business is involved, it's here to stay!

Thanks, Meagan! The gore I had turned out to be that the glowing juice from the glow-sticks partially melted the styrofoam peanuts, and combined that with the drizzled tempera paint it made for something really cool to touch... and then stain. I had to keep a rag handy for the few that touched the mess as they asked "What's that stuff made of?" :D

Amen! *standing O*

I go crazy with the decor every year too, even though the "village" I live in is slowly trying to kill the holiday. They actually cut trick or treating hours to only 5-7pm this year. Watch, next year, it will be 0 or worse, on the Sunday night before Halloween to keep it on a weekend. *rolling eyes*

Anyway, your porch and black light idea looks awesome! Creepy without the gore - which I love too, but my 5 year old, not so much. :-)
