Holy Terror Cell Batman

When thinking of garishly costumed heroes (Spider-Man, Superman, Batman, The Fantastic Four) we also think of their equally flamboyant foemen (The Green Goblin, Lex Luthor, The Joker, Dr. Doom). This is partially because that it has long been said that the measure of a hero is the foes against whom he fights. It is partially for this reason that many times our favorite hero’s villains are — truth to tell — more powerful than the heroes themselves (David v. Goliath).
After all, it is precisely by going up against a villain more powerful than one’s self that a hero’s true measure is determined. Which is partially why fictional heroes sometimes go up against them. Still, fictional heroes and fictional villains are, well fictional. Which brings us to our next point.
DC Comics has just announced that Batman will be taking on Osama bin Laden.
Yeah, you read that right. Before you all go off on a bender, let me assure you that this isn’t as unusual as you might think. Both Superman and Captain America fought Hitler during WWII, plus many of the Disney characters fought in WWII as well.
"Holy Terror, Batman!" an upcoming graphic novel from famed Batman writer Frank Miller, sees the caped crusader facing off against Al-Qaeda operatives who attack Gotham City.
The rest of that can be read by going here.
Some of the reaction to the announcement can be read here. Me personally, I’m all for it, after all, in Amazing Spider-Man #36 (V.2) Spider-Man and a number of other Marvel Superheroes showed up at Ground Zero shortly after the towers fell to clear up the rubble and lend whatever (feeble) assistance that they could.

So DC letting Batman go after Al Qaeda is somehow only fanboy poetic justice.
