Going to H(ell) at RWA 2007 [pics]

Everyone who's seen one of those haunted house movies always laughs when you think about how stupid those people are to be stuck in the haunted house when all they had to do is just LEAVE THE HOUSE!

Well, more than one person at the RWA Conference this year had that sort of thought on their mind when first they decided to go one of the seminars held in one particular hotel seminar room.

Why? Because of the path you had to take to get there. But as all the story tellers in attendance at the Romance Writers of America Conference would tell you, the JOURNEY can be a STORY in itself.

Well, here is your journey to the "H" room. Aptly named, as you must take a trip through "H"ell to get there. (I'm on a roll, just go with it)

Here's the beginning of our journey, showing the placard for some "Spotlight on" some publisher. I think this on was St. Martin's.

Just follow the sign taped to the wall

Seeing a live human being emerging from this gives us hope. Of course, once you remember that she's escaping, you wonder why you're going in there...

The entry to the first hallway of doom is protected by a powerful energy field. Here are the controllers to that energy field right before I took my trusty ax to them. This first level hallway is now safe... if just a little smoke laden.

If you squint hard, you can make a face out of this

Rounding the corner, and down another hallway, here is the cage of the dreaded "Cardboard Monster".

The staff at the hotel tried to camouflage the location, but not the moans coming from that horrible genetic experiment gone awry.

You can see more of the cardboard creatures too afraid to come out if you look over the beige camouflage wall.

Cage to the cardboard creatures has been opened!

I'm not sure whatever became of "Cardy", the monster I befriended when I found it roaming the hallways, but I'll never forget our adventures together.

Here's a typical ambush point in the path. Note the dark grey creature in the corner getting ready to pounce.

Classic ambush point. I was ready.

This was where my shotgun came in handy. I was about out of ammo by this point, though.

This large door was around the next corner.

I knew what was behind it. The Boss for the Level. I had to defeat it to go on.

When that big door started sliding open, I didn't know whether to pee my pants or run.

Well, I didn't run.

Final boss door. It was not pretty.

Finally. The goal is in sight.

The goal in sight. How I longed for this!

YES! I made it! I got there! I got to listen to editors talk about...
how the journey can be as important as getting there?
Nah, it was about buying time traveling witches who turn into vampires.

I knew then I had to leave... Hell.

Go To Hell. Do Not Pass Go.
