I’ll post this because I feel I have to. This is a rant of epic proportions, and I don’t endorse it, but do understand and sympathize with the real events that prompted it.
It’s Keith Olberman, and if it’s not obvious where his sentiments lie before this rant, there’s no doubt where he’s coming from after you listen to this.
Most of you won’t be able to listen to this entire nine minute long rant. It’s that bombastic. Keith is foaming at the mouth by minute two, and at the end, you wonder if he’s not in the middle of an apoplectic stroke.
It has to do with the racist remarks that Geraldine Ferraro has made and continues to make about the qualifications of Senator Obama in regards to race. The level of reality you might perceive from Ms. Ferraro’s remarks I’ll leave to you. I don’t believe the core intent of Ferraro’s remarks is anywhere close to the truth, and that Sen. Obama’s popularity is much more than his racial background. However, when you have a racist remark made by Ferraro, it shows the Democrats have white racists just like the Republicans do.
The indignation of Olberman in the video is two fold. One, that a previous candidate for Vice Presidency (who was picked as candidate for Veep because of her sex) could ever stoop so low as to make racially insensitive remarks, and two, that Hillary didn’t personally put a public beatdown on Geraldine so as to distance herself from the taint those racist remarks made on Sen. Clinton’s campaign.
Here it is… No, you won’t get all the way through it, but if you do, note the very similar comment Ferraro made about Jesse Jackson twenty years ago:
Don’t raise the subject of “independent journalist” because that label doesn’t apply here. You may apply it somewhere else, but this rant is taken from a cable program, and there’s no expectation of fairness or independent viewpoints there. I don’t expect Rush Limbaugh to be even handed either.
There’s a reason I don’t listen to Olberman. It’s the same reason I quit listening to Limbaugh. I’ll note it when they say something newsworthy, but their opinions don’t influence me. I’ve posted this because the Democrats need as much light as possible cast upon all aspects of the political process. The Dems in power certainly don’t like that prospect, but those of us in the rank and file who want change are insisting.
The convention in Denver will be a stellar one, that’s for sure.

I’m a Hillary supporter, have been one since Bill’s first term, and I have to say that this started out sounding like and attack against Hilary, but as I listened to it (and yeah, I listened to the whole thing) I can’t help but to agree with Olberman. Too often our politicians take the easy way out rather than stand up and say what is right, and say what they are advised to say by the hangers on who want the trappings of power and none of the responsibility of it.
The Perfessor
The bottom line is that she hasn’t stepped out to REJECT and DENOUNCE Ferarro’s statements, after making such a big deal out of Obama’s not distancing himself enough from the elements that make him look bad. This is a nice little incident to add to a long string of double standards and self-contradictions in her campaign.
And yeah, I watched the whole thing, too. I’m a sucker for an eloquent rant.
