Rained in Houston about 5 inches yesterday. Our house got a bit more than 6.5, I’m guessing. Everyone survived except a couple in an GMC Jimmy (SUV) that did not properly convert into a submarine. [HouChron] The remarkable thing was the heat of the rain. Seriously, I’ve taken colder showers. This was sauna conditions during the rain. I’ve never felt anything like it.

The rain came down in Biblical proportions. Somewhere Mel Gibson was blaming the Jews over this.

Ever wondered what it looks like when your SUV gets struck by lightning? Dr. Emmet Brown unavailable to marvel at the 1.21 Gigawatts. [YouTube]

Another day, another raid by the FBI of a congressman and his friends and family [WaPo]

This is getting to the point where Tom DeLay was the least corrupt of the corrupt politicians.

Are you lying to me? How to tell if someone is lying.

Yes, it’s possible to “game” YouTube into getting your video seen. Just upload something, and then set your computer to refresh that page with that video a couple of thousand times. It will get noticed.

This is similar to a band trying to get popular by creating thousands of MySpace accounts and making them all friends of the band, thus showing potential music venues how many “fans” they have.

Alison’s radio interview takes place a week from today. I’m going to listen to today’s show as a way of telling what kind of show it is. It’s on at 8:45AM Pacific Time.

– — –

Yes, Heroes was decent. It’s a slow build. We get to see more bad guy power stuff. Again, the final scene was just about worth it. Did you know the guy that plays Hiro in the show still works for George Lucas in real life? Acting for this guy is still a part time gig.

– — –

Again, I’m sure Ken Levine will completely trash Studio 60, I still think it’s okay and still finding its stride. I’m not convinced that having the love story be the center without fleshing out more of the cast is a good idea, but what do I know? Sting on the show was a nice touch.

I know that sometimes a real love story can come into play in a real TV show setting — the actor that plays Rodney McKay on Stargate:Atlantis is shopping some story he wrote that’s a fictional version of what really happened on the Stargate set — something I’d like to see… But a writer? In a love story? Pshaww!

Meanwhile, the idiots at ABC greenlighted the rest of the season of Brothers and Sisters. Brothers and Sisters is a bad show filled with uninteresting characters and less interesting actors. With the notable exception of Sally Fields. It’s nice to see Gidget get some work, but I’d rather not have Ally McEatASandwhichGoddamit Beal on the show at all. I’m sure Callista is a fine person in real life, but on the set she reminds me of someone who went to the William Hurt school of acting.

So, I’m in the car yesterday with Alison, and someone mentions that the number one song in America is by Justin Timberlake, and Alison and I discuss that we’ve not even heard it. I’m sure this says more about us than the state of modern music, but it also says something when the first time I “heard” the song is actually when I heard the spoof of the song.

Seems everyone wants to be Weird Al:

Paxilback, spoof of Sexyback, sound req’d.

And finally, the Transformation of beauty: (sound not req’d)

I like how they made her eyes bigger in her head at the end.

The ad is for Dove beauty products, teaching girls real beauty, not the photoshopped kind illustrated above. Still, it’s interesting.

Oh, Daughter! I was thinking more along the lines of toilet function.

And your MySpace page glows a bit too red. Like a radioactive badger.

I know that you didn’t ask, but, #2, your MySpace page is also very loud (both aurally and visually). It hurt both my eyes and ears, but that could be due as much to my advanced age as to the fact that I actually work as an interactive graphic artist.

    Still, whatever floats your boat.

Alison, I’ve done several radio interviews (mostly to promote my book when it first came out). Break a leg!

Well, I’m pretty aurally and visually loud [walt knows], so.. such is life, I guess.
I can’t even think righ tnow what song I have on there, but it changes every few days. Sometimes I have old classics, sometimes whiny girls, somtimes funky soul, so sometimes it’s not so aurally loud. :)
