I was never tortured with the Shakespearean version of Anthony and Cleopatra when I was in school, so I don't know how much romance was portrayed in that version but the couple we see on screen is just laughably awful with Anthony completely smitten by this junkie nymphomaniac version of Cleopatra.

Atia died in 43 B.C., more than 12 years before Anthony's final battle and death, so we know this has departed from the historical version, but I don't much care.

The bit with the will is pretty close enough to what happened, tho --
(to those not following the show, Octavian (who will eventually be known as Augustus, the guy we have a month named after) gets ahold of Anthony's will in July 32 BC and read it aloud. It promised large legacies to Antony's children by Cleopatra and instructed that his body be shipped to Alexandria for burial. Rome was outraged, and the Senate declared war.

While you're watching the final eps of ROME, remember that Octavia (Anthony's wife until he pretty much divorces her before his end)
ends up being the caretaker of Antony's children, including his by Cleopatra. The way things are going, I don't think the HBO show is going to show it that way...

I was getting impatient with the gratuitous sex in ROME yesterday. And I wanted Anthony and Cleopatra to just go away, they were so boring and annoying. I suppose soon enough they will go away. :D

It really is sad that we're down to the very last few episodes, but like I've said before, at least they're quitting while they're ahead unlike *cough*LOST*cough*.
