The iPhone that may not be called the "iPhone" because of the Cisco lawsuit is nearly identical in shape and touchscreen function to a phone that LG showed off two weeks before last Christmas.

Oh, and that iPhone that's supposed to be branded with "Cingular" because of the agreement with Apple? The agreement still stands, but it turns out that the name "Cingular" is being dropped.

AT&T wants everyone to know there can be only one, and it's not Cingular. Cingular had perhaps $1Billion in advertising last year, and this year that will drop to nothing.

Your Cingular is now AT&T.

In other news, Singulair sold by Merck is doing quite well, and thanks AT&T for abandoning the soundalike name.

The Republicans in the House noticed something fishy going on with the Minimum Wage Bill just passed through.

The bill "extends for the first time the federal minimum wage to the U.S. territory of the Northern Mariana Islands. However, it exempts American Samoa, another Pacific island territory that would become the only U.S. territory not subject to federal minimum-wage laws."

One of the "biggest opponents of the federal minimum wage in Samoa is StarKist Tuna, which owns one of the two packing plants that together employ more than 5,000 Samoans, or nearly 75 percent of the island's work force."

Why would Starkist Tuna get special treatment on this minimum trade bill?

Well, Starkist Tuna happens to have their headquarters in Speaker Nancy Pelosi's home district.

The very first major piece of legislation passed by the Democratic House of Congress just happens to exempt and benefit a company who's home office is in the same district as the newly elected Speaker.

I'm sure there's a perfectly good explanation as to how this came to pass.

Nancy, you have some es'plain'in to dooooo!

Swedish file-sharing website The Pirate Bay is planning to buy the 550 square metre principality of Sealand, a former British naval platform in the North Sea that has been designated a 'micronation'.

The group has set up a campaign to raise money to buy the self-declared sovereign nation. Outside the jurisdiction of the UK or any other country, The Pirate Bays believes it could safely run the world's largest 'bit torrent tracker'.

Yes, a land without copyright protection. I can't wait until they start offering citizenship...

-- -- --

In other copyright news, the MPAA, those bunch of lawyers that want to stop piracy have apparently been caught uploading fake torrents of movies so they can collect the IP addresses of those trying to download those pirated movies... that the MPAA pirated... to uh, stop piracy...

If you are a man and you're going to jail, dressing up as a woman and fooling the authorities into sending you to the women's prison is a really crazy idea...

... that just. might. work.

This link has something to do with World of Warcraft

(Don't click unless you love WoW)

Man, I'm glad I never played a minute. Looks pretty, but when you come up against a guy that kills everybody and is unstoppable (the scenario of the special episode of SOUTH PARK come to life) it kind of makes the whole game a bit of a joke... a joke that takes maybe a year of practice just to get to and appreciate.

The latest version of SketchUp 3D is out by Google. Free and helpful, if you have to draw things that are uh, three dimensional.

sheesh... that's it for this week.

You in the MidWest, you stay out of the ice storm, and you in LA, say hello to snow for me if you see it. Snow is that white stuff that's legal to play around with.

Meanwhile, I'll be checking out this movie, and I imagine it will be checking out me!
Pans Labyrinth

Have a great weekend!

Pan's Labyrinth is not a happy fairy tale, just to let everyone know. It's dark. In more ways than one.

  3. Alison Says:

I'd never even heard of Pan's Labyrinth until #1 and #1b/f talked about seeing it.

I want to see PL, go with me?

Not for nothing, but do any of you folks ever talk in, you know, real-space?

    I mean, I'm just asking.
