Cuppabits – I have a dream edition
by Walt br>Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day, everyone!
Go out and make the dream come true! Judge everyone on their character!
The only thing that upsets me about this day (and Columbus Day) is that you know SOME places are closed, but you're not quite sure about those others.
Banks and schools are closed, but is the garbage going to be picked up today? Are you sure?

In Houston, we don't have a single Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade today. We have two.
Both parades take the same route and both parades don't like each other very much. I think it has something to do with one of the parade's organizers being non-profit and the other being a for-profit setup. The for-profit parade can afford to be a bit more showy.[MLKparadefoundation]

HBO's ROME came on last night, but everyone was too busy watching Jack Bauer tear the jugular vein out of the neck of some terrorist using only his teeth. ... and then a commercial!
("This moment of vigiliante vampirism brought to you by Crest Toothpaste!")
Favorite quote from last night's ROME: "You, Too, Mother?" because it was Brutus who said it.
You see, in last year's finale of ROME, Caesar is murdered and dying and tries to speak something, but Brutus doesn't hear it... so we in the audience don't get to hear the famous line that Caesar may or may not have actually said that goes something like, "And You (too), Brutus?"

Watching Jack Bauer was so important that we turned the TV off from the end of the football playoffs because the San Diego Chargers had pretty much wrapped up the game against the pretty well impotent New England Patriots. Well, the Patriots were impotent against the Chargers for every part of the game except the ending, and came back to win, scoring like 200 points in the last three minutes of the contest.
I think the coach of the Patriots must have put Jack Bauer in as quaraterback during those last few minutes of the game.

Tonight's TV schedule has Jack Bauer going up against the Golden Globes...
So many people are watching and talking about Jack Bauer this morning, I already know who's going to win the Golden Globes...
My picks:
Best Picture - Drama: Jack Bauer
Best Actress - Drama: Jack Bauer
Best Actor - Drama: Jack Bauer
Best Picture - Musical or Comedy: Jack Bauer
Best Actress - Musical or Comedy: Jack Bauer
Best Actor - Musical or Comedy: Jack Bauer
Best Supporting Actress: Jack Bauer
Best Supporting Actor: Jack Bauer
Translation: Nobody's going to be watching squat until that nuke we saw in the previews explodes, and we want to see Jack Bauer kill someone else with a teacup (wait, am I channeling CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK here?) Oh, well, Riddick, Jack Bauer, they all kind of blend together after a while...

Speaking of gross deaths, when you hang people, the goal is to hang them hard enough to kill them, but not hard enough that their head comes off when you do it.
Apparently, the hangmen in Iraq need more practice. [link]

A sheriff's deputy from a county in Texas right next to the border with Mexico got pulled over on Interstate 20 just west of Atlanta. "Unspecified traffic stop" was the apparent problem. The Georgia State Troopers ask to search the vehicle, and the Deputy from Texas agrees.
I don't know why he would agree, because the Deputy from Texas had $1Million dollars in that truck. [link]
Something tells me he won't get to keep that money.

Why does the show LOST have to be so convoluted?
Question: “Is there a reason [Benjamin Linus] couldn't have, way
back when, before the Others started killing people, just wandered on over and said, ‘Hey, welcome to the island. I hear you're a spinal surgeon. I've got a tumor. Could you help a brother out?’ (Laughter.) Why does it have to be that convoluted?”Lindelof: Well, I suppose there's certainly -- you know, there's certainly a point to be made for that version. But I would argue, no offense to your writing skills -- (Laughter) -- that that version is considerably less intriguing for a mystery show. You know, the reality is, you know, if, when Kate was first stitching up Jack, you know, she's like, ‘Who are you?’ he's like, ‘I'm a spinal surgeon. I've got some hardcore father issues. I don't think I'm going to be a good leader,’ and she's like, ‘You've got father issues? I blew up my [gosh darn] stepdad,’ you know then it would have been like, ‘Why even do the show?’ because everything's right there. (Laughter)
Q&A with the folks behind LOST
There's a bit about how even though the X-FILES was still a show about, well, the X-FILES, when Scully and Mulder were gone, the show wasn't worth a damn thing. Meaning... if you ask too many questions about the damn polar bears, you forget you're really watching the show to find out more about Jack and Kate and Sawyer and the rest. The characters make the show, and don't you forget it.

The very first HD-DVD to be leaked on the BitTorrent was SERENITY, the Firefly movie [link]
Torrents of normal movies, which normally dribble the illegal files to you based on a distribution method that resembles water torture, will now be longer than ever before. For example, if you want to watch an HD-DVD movie illegally downloaded from the torrents by July, you have until February 1st to start the download...

Ever search for a topic on Google, and find in the first three links a link for the item on Wikipedia?
Sure, me too. Wikipedia links always would pop up on Google searches.
Now? Eh, not so much. Google is apparently having a spat with Wikipedia, and as a result, the Wikipedia links are dropping in "Google Rank".
Moral to the story? Never believe that Google is a completely neutral search engine.

And finally, THE ICE MAN COMETH
Here in my normally warm neck of the woods, there's a chance that the power made go out due to the fact that icewill be forming on the power lines tonight and anything happening at CuppaCentral may be done by candlelight.
Normally when it gets this cold, it's a dry cold, or even snow, but this time it's freezing and the rain is coming from Mexico and while Dallas to Missouri got hit over the weekend, the whole mess is shifting south a couple of hundred miles, and I don't doubt our power lines will be hit. Hopefully, we'll dodge a bullet.
Keep warm!
