Creepy Trent Reznor, Creepy FRINGE trailer

The Hollywood Insider at EW.com clues us in to the creepy promotion for the FRINGE series, the only TV I try to watch these days. (Don't ask me how bad this season is for TV watching. I might tell you. You won't like me when I tell you how bad TV is this fall.)

Did Reznor want to be paid for the use of his music and collaboration?

“We offered him compensation, and he said, ‘No, no, I just want to have fun and be part of something cool,’”

Reznor wound up revamping the song in his mobile studio while on tour, and he even came up with the idea of “embedding” one of the show’s glyphs in the music. (Hint: Examine the song’s sound waves on a computer.) Now for the big question: Might Reznor pop up in an episode of Fringe? “If he wants to come act on the show, that’s not tit for tat—that’s an open invitation, and we made that known to him,” says Pinkner. Any ideas on what he may play? “Well, his head would probably end up exploding,” deadpans Pinkner. “There’d be some uncomfortable biology in there one way or another.”

Nice vid. Very Creepy. I watched the first couple of episodes, but haven’t kept up. I’m thinking that I should.

Well, Perfessor, the show _IS_ a weak copy of X-Files... Let's just get that statement out there to start off with.

That said, it has an interesting spin on things. For one thing, the main character on the show is about as wooden as a pencil. This was and for the most part still is a huge distraction from the rest of the show. But once you get past that, or even in spite of that, the rest of the show would seem to follow the X-Files "monster of the week" format. With the X-Files, you had the whole conspiracy over aliens and the government involvement, and that made you question motives, which kept you involved.

With Fringe, it's a bit more focused. You get the impression that there is a purpose to every unexplainable moment, complete with at least one character that is seen on every show, a mysterious "watcher". Not to be confused with "viewer" which is something Jay Leno is struggling to find these days...

You have a character named Walter (so nice to hear my name coming out of the TV) who is just about as imbalanced as a 6ft stack of teacups. And we have his son, about which there's a hidden spoiler about that I'll let you discover if you continue to watch the rest of Season One, which is out on DVD these days.

And then you have the evil corporate agency that might not be so evil (but still is, naturally) who's run by a woman that the main character's boss is way too familiar with.

What makes most things on the show fun, and what most likely brings Trent Reznor into things is the creepy body modifications that go on. We're not solving urban myths like so many of the X-Files shows are doing -- no, it's not some new genetic aberration making a mole boy -- it's an aberration that is causing an average person to become mole boy -- and that aberration was introduced by someone unknown that wants to attack everyone on the planet... somehow.

    I think.

What is the rumor about the new Star Trek TV show coming out? My brother has been talking about it all day, can't be true, right?
