Wehn does a Cub Scout become a Boy Scout?

The answer isn't in this video, but watching it does make me want to go back and try for my Eagle...

Orange Rules!

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Syracuse-MomYeah, yeah, after years of listening to music it is a tough thing to say, but you know, now that my son, Dylan, is attending Syracuse University, we sort of have to go that way these days.

Syracuse-DadThis past weekend, we all went up to visit Dylan for Family weekend, and attended a Syracuse football game (yes, they even won 28-14). Anyway, it was a fun weekend.

We got to see the campus and purchase a metric tonne of Syracuse Spirit-wear (most of which went to Kayla, our parents, and other relatives). I’ll be posting some pics as soon as I can gain access to the camera and download them. In the mean time, here are a couple of buttons that Shelly & I wore all weekend long to identify us as Syracuse parents (and to embarrass Dylan).

Radio 19.5

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

While we here at CuppaCafe certainly want everyone to read our blog, I do want you to take a spare moment to click over to another blogger and check out what he has to say. This is my son (the Eagle Scout), Dylan, who is off at Syracuse University, and this blog is (apparently), a class project that he doing.

I’m not entirely sure what is going on with what he is posting, except to say that it is about they type of music that he listens to, and prefers. Not to be my father (who still thinks of the Beatles as “Hippy music”), I’m OK with what my kids listen to, I’m just not sure that I can listen to it long (or in the case of Dylan’s listening to), at all.

Having said all of that, I present to you Radio 19.5. So, go, check it out, leave comments, and oh yeah, you can apparently even follow the boy on Twitter.

Melancholy Days

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

dylan's-roomI haven’t posted in a couple of days, and I’m feeling a bit off right now (Yeah, yeah, I know that some of you Walt are going to say that I have always been “a little bit off”), but that’s because over the weekend I drove up to Syracuse to drop my eldest off to attend college there.

Yeah, yeah, I know that I should be happy that he got into such a prestigious school and all, but I’m really having a difficult time adjusting to this new phase in all of our lives (and, of course, the fact the he will probably never live with me again).

Not entirely sure that I was ready for this. Truth to tell, I’m taking this harder than either my wife or our daughter (who spent the weekend cleaning up her own room, and measuring his to see if her stuff would fit in it). Sweet kid, eh?

Anyway. I’m feeling a little melancholy and, well, hopefully I’ll feel better as the week wears on.
