BLINK

If you are in the USA and you really enjoy DOCTOR WHO but refuse to watch the episodes until they're broadcast on American cable channels, then you're some months behind those who watch it as it shows in British markets...

and as such have missed not yet seen two amazing stories. The first was a two parter, stretched between two hours of the show called "The Family Of Blood", based on a DOCTOR WHO book written in 1995 (about a previous incarnation of the Doctor). That premise is about "What would happen if the Doctor was an ordinary human with no knowledge of his previous life journeys? What sort of man would he have been?" A what-if of sorts. The Doctor falls in love in 1913, and grows old in a happy marriage... well, he would have if he didn't have to tear himself away to be the Doctor again, pretty much against his wishes...

But the most amazing story I've seen was this past episode. I really can't tell you much about the episode that won't spoil it, but I was incredibly and deeply impressed with the story of the thing. I love story. I am a story guy. Characters, setting, the art of the whole thing, they're all fine. But give me a story I haven't been told before... if you can. I'll eat it right up.

DOCTOR WHO is very light horror, and as such, in the average episode, all you mostly see is the Doctor running around, usually being chased by something he encounters. In this last episode called "Blink", however, the Doctor doesn't star in the show at all. Sure, he makes some appearances, but that's about it. The show involves a girl who only meets the Doctor in real life at the very end of the show, and when he meets her, she knows about him, but he's never met her before. Although WE know what's transpired, the girl only realizes what has happened at the very end of the story, the puzzle finally coming together for her, and we get to see the girl give the first piece of the puzzle to the Doctor. At the end of the show, he has no idea what's happened. It's a time thing. An impossible story of sorts. A great one-off story, a one of a kind. A standalone story that's so cool, anyone can watch it and enjoy it for the small story that it is. No prior knowledge of DOCTOR WHO required.

Oh yeah. A word of warning.

DON'T BLINK!
