I don’t want to kick someone in their religion, but I can’t help but to think that when one of us heathens has a child out of wedlock it is an example of the moral decay of our society, but when the underage offspring of a religious woman (who has been raised in a religious atmosphere) has a child out of wedlock, we celebrate that she and the father are going to do “the right thing” and get hitched.

Which — needless to say — completely begs the question of the (religious) right thing to do was to not have had sex in the first place! But Walt is right, we can’t talk about that.

Let’s also not talk about the fact that just because you raise your children in a religious “just say no/abstinence is good” atmosphere that they will actually listen to you. Proving (if I may be so bold as to say) that perhaps a more Real-World approach to family planing and birth control is in order.

Further, (and this could just be my own personal observation) when those in the government talk about Faith-Based Initiatives; what they really mean is Christian-based initiatives, with Jews going to the back of the line and everybody else being shown the door.

Well, as long as they taught her abstinence only in sex ed, at least they can say they did all they could do to prevent her doing something as stupid as getting pregnant.

Snort.

I can’t stand that in this country we have all but sanctified the separation of church and state as law but yet we demand that all of our politicians pass a piety test.

Enough!

Freedom of religion also means freedom from religion.

During the primaries McCain said “This is a Christian country and it deserves a Christian President.” I’m not Jewish, but I’m offended that Joe Lieberman stands next to this schmuck.

I think it is great that people (especially those in politics) have religious beliefs. I’m irritated that they feel that I should believe the same way they believe, just because that the way they believe.

You can’t legislate morality, and every time they tell me that I have to believe the way they believe because they have decided that’s the way it ought to be I want to have them tarred and feathered.
